The Book by Pierre Coulibeuf is a book with no beginning and no end. It is an introduction to the artistic universe of Pierre Coulibeuf, describing his photografical and cinematographical work. The shape of the book clearly illustrates the concepts of infinity and ethernal rehearsal, which are central in the work of Coulibeuf, in his films as well as in his artistic intallations (photos and videos).

Biography of Pierre Coulibeuf
Born in Elbeuf (France) in 1949, Pierre Coulibeuf lives today in Paris where he works as film-maker and artist. He was awarded a doctorate in modern literature with a dissertation on P. Klossowski and L. von Sacher Masoch.
Pierre Coulibeuf has achieved a cinematographic body of works that owns its originality to its close relation to other artistic disciplines (i.e. visual arts, choreography, literature). Crossing cinematographic genres (fiction, documentary, experimental) as well as always presenting the image with different supports (35mm projection, installation, photography) has given his simulacrum-movies the chance of inventing a place or a language closely related to other forms of art, criticising the more established ones and questioning the ways reality has always been presented.
After 1987 Pierre Coulibeuf shot several short and long length films based on the worlds of Pierre Klossowski, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Marina Abramovic, Michel Butor, Jean-Marc Bustamante, Jan Fabre, Meg Stuart.
His films have been long exhibited as installation (films, photos and videos) in contemporary art locations. Pierre Coulibeuf was invited in 2005 at the International Pavilion by the 5th International Biennial of Contemporary Art of Mercosul, Porto Alegre, Brazil. A 35mm retrospective and installations will be touring Germany starting from February 2006 (Kino Abaton and Deichtorhallen, Hamburg; Kino Arsenal and PLAY_gallery for still and motion pictures, Berlin; Leipzig Kino and Galerie in der Hochschule für Graphik und Buchkunst, Leipzig; Filmmuseum and Galerie Traversée, Munich; Black Box and Institut français Düsseldorf).
