The volume, richly illustrated with color
images and reproductions of original projects, includes an interview with
the artist as well as a bio-bibliography. Goi (born in 1965 in Büsum,
Germany) is an artist who is fond of mixing his private life with his art.
His style is the result of other styles; despite this melange his work is
unmistakably Goi: he draws, designs, paints, photographs, does performances
but, above all, he transforms every thing or person with whom he comes into
contact into a piece of his work. The GOI-Komplex, environmental structures
that can contain anywhere from a few to a thousand images, are the most
complete and complex expressions of his work. These represent an emblematic
example of the total art work and introduce new subjects for
reflection. A peculiar characteristic of GOI is his multiple artistic personality
that he has developed over the last decade. This means, in practical terms,
that the artist has created different characters one after another, each
of whom has his own look and aesthetic philosophy: Zitronenman (Lemon man),
Schrumpfgoi (Crumpled-up Goi), Bernd Hass (Bernard Hatred), Pop-Eye the
Eggman.
