The subject of Jean-Baptiste’s monologue is love, reflections on the French conception of love and that of the ancients – Hadrian’s love for Antinous, the ideas about ideal love that are transmitted by French films and literary culture in general, and Marguerite Yourcenar’s transmission of those notions through her own intimate relationship with literature, with history as a materialof shifting properties, consciousnesses, points of convergence. Excerpted from an interview with Yourcenar from 1980, playing with the borrowing of a literary tradition, updating this interview into another context, drawing out the actor’s own relation both to inhabiting the current space and conditions of the city while reflecting Yourcenar’s timeless conceptions of real and fictional love and longing.

Dead Satellites by Shahram Entekhabi
Dead Satellites by Shahram Entekhabi
Dead Satellites is an expression defined by Shahram Entekhabi for a certain culture within the migrant scene. In an astro-scientific context, the term ‘dead satellites’ stands for satellites that are out of service, but still circling around the earth without destination. The title refers to those people, who left their home countries and practice certain cultural traditions in an exaggerated way. By this, the traditions lose their origins and are unveiled in a way of total hypertrophy. This exaggeration mixes up with a deep feeling of discomfort and mistrust against the ‘host country’. As result there are ‘dead satellites’, rootless, in two ways: they are without any context to their home countries and live in a partly self-decided, partly forced isolation additionally to their situation in the new country.
Further interracial tensions are stoking between the groups of migrants since the European enlargement.
The three parted video performance ‘dead satellites’ tells the story of a Muslim couple, dressed up in western clothes, who are filled with hate against the ‘white’ race in their environment. During the three chapters, ‘bint ‘amm’ (inbreed*), ‘Jungle Fever’ (after a film by Spike Lee, that deals of the love and compassion between the races) and ‘Familycide’ (an expression for a committed murder on relatives), the conflict potential between the partners gets worse as result of the Dead Satellites-situation. It evaluates into a bitter battle.

Who's afraid... by Shahram Entekhabi
Who's afraid... by Shahram Entekhabi
Who’s afraid... is a short film based on sensible human interactions between a woman and a man in a relationship. It is a fight for power and respect, both individuals struggle for their own wills. The relationship is based on fragile poles, from passionate love to mental and even physical destruction. Woman and man enclose themselves in a contained world, without leaving enough private space one another. The only connection the outside world is given through a telephone. This situation develops into a dangerous fight and sexual game. Also a sharp knife plays an important part in the story. It is used as a symbol of violence and an expression of power. Both, woman and man push their relationship in a psychological farce. The story comes to its turning end, when the woman...

Pavillon Noir by Pierre Coulibeuf
ALLES WIRD WIEDER GUT by Frédéric Moser and Philippe Schwinger
The film PAVILLON NOIR is part of a cross-disciplinary project that, in this case, brings together architecture, choreography and cinema. The work aims to create a space “on the border” (of artistic disciplines and categories as well as of genres of the moving image), exactly where the individuals and things transform themselves, change their status, their identity. As a double or an mirrored image of reality. The disinclination becomes their main characteristic. This other reality is made at times visible by obscure forces in the individual: the drive world causes brusque disturbances to reality, multiple incidents, abrupt breaks of the narrative’s flow. The film’s reality is at the same time strange and familiar. Like little “demons”, the characters parody with drive the fictional stereotypes of cinema or films for the television (sitcom, etc.).

The Video Installation Unexpected Rules was produced as the Swiss Contribution to the 26th International Biennal of Contemporary Art of São Paulo in 2004.
The script is based on the "Clinton-Lewinsky Affair", which arose from the nexus between power, sex, and globalized media and shows how multifaceted levels of interest, along with public images, ultimately render the "true" interpretation of an event impossible.

Caution by Shahram Entekhabi in collaboration with Mieke Bal
Caution by Shahram Entekhabi in collaboration with Mieke Bal

Caution responds to performance art. Here, the man reappears on the prestigious oval lawn in front of the library, where students walk by to go to classes. A normal day on an American campus. The tiny figure walking the middle of the path opposite the high viewing point, strikes as slightly out of place: the gap is put in place, visually. It is also put in place in the performance, as he walks faster than others, as if he had a purpose.

"i?" by Shahram Entekhabi
"i?" by Shahram Entekhabi

I was more interested in the conceptual nature of FILM than in any of its more modernist features. This concept includes the enlisting of a Hollywood star, of course, thus making a pre-post-modernist claim for the abolition of that boundary between popular and high culture.
