This 20 minute, 16mm film creates
a utopian fiction around the Modern Pentathlon discipline (running, swimming,
shooting, fencing, and horseback riding), springboarding from this arcane
Olympic sport to an investigation of Modernity, Romanticism, and the
struggle for wholeness. Folding sport, dance, painting, sculpture, architecture,
and music into the medium of film, it lightly strives to become a contemporary “Gesamtkunstwerk” (total
artwork) - an updated Bauhaus experiment informed by 60’s New Wave
filmmaking. |
